Description

The Ethiopian Women in Energy Association (EWiEn), in collaboration with Ethiopia Germany Energy Cooperation (GIZ), recently organized a thematic workshop focused on the Productive Use of Energy (PUE) and Community Energy. The workshop served as a valuable platform for dialogue, knowledge-sharing, and exploration of viable solutions within Ethiopia’s energy sector.

During the workshop, attendees had the opportunity to gain valuable insights into the current energy landscape in Ethiopia. The concept of Productive Use of Energy (PUE) and its potential to bridge the energy gap and create inclusive solutions for communities across the country were highlighted.

A panel discussion featuring esteemed experts in the energy sector was held, addressing crucial topics such as the implementation of energy systems, the influence of gender norms and power dynamics on decision-making, strategies for involving women in community energy projects, and the economic and social benefits of renewable energy for rural communities, particularly women.

Several insights emerged from the workshop. One key takeaway was the importance of involving women in decision-making processes within the energy sector. By empowering more women with technical and soft skills, and including their perspectives in energy projects, the quality of life for communities, especially women, can be significantly improved.

Another significant insight was the need to consider the specific context of each community when designing energy-focused projects. By understanding the daily experiences, environmental factors, and lifestyle of the community, tailored solutions can be developed to effectively meet their unique energy needs.

The workshop also emphasized the critical role of collaboration in achieving the goals set by the National Electrification Program (NEP) by 2030. Through unified efforts involving the government, private investors, and community energy systems, Ethiopia can move towards a sustainable and electrically empowered future.

In conclusion, the thematic workshop on Productive Use of Energy and Community Energy provided a platform for valuable dialogue and knowledge-sharing within Ethiopia’s energy sector. The insights gained highlighted the importance of women’s participation, the contextualization of energy projects, and collaboration among stakeholders. This workshop served as a testament to the dedication and collective efforts of all involved in advancing sustainable energy solutions in Ethiopia.
