Netsanet Behailu Kinde is a true trailblazer in Ethiopia’s energy sector! As SCADA/DMS Project Manager at General Electric, she’s at the cutting edge of digitalising Ethiopia’s electricity distribution, leading projects that implement advanced Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) and Distribution Management Systems (DMS). Her work ensures a smarter, more efficient, and reliable power grid for communities nationwide, proving that modern energy infrastructure is as much about brains as it is about wires.

With over two decades of experience, Netsanet’s career reads like a masterclass in technical excellence and leadership. She began at Ethiopian Electric Power, where she rose from a Junior Engineer to Load Dispatch Centre Project Manager, overseeing the creation of Ethiopia’s national grid command centre. She coordinated international funding, supervised SCADA and Energy Management System integration, and enhanced the reliability and control of the country’s power network. Her expertise then took her to VERGNET, where she led the commissioning of high-voltage substations and coordinated 33kV wind farm networks alongside global partners, showcasing her ability to manage complex projects on a massive scale.

Driven by her entrepreneurial spirit, Netsanet founded NBK Electrical Consulting Engineers, directing projects that advanced Ethiopia’s renewable energy ambitions, from designing hydro, wind, and solar power plants to implementing Solar Home Systems in rural communities. Today, she brings that wealth of experience to GE, managing projects from global procurement and factory acceptance tests to on-site commissioning and financial oversight. Her leadership ensures every project not only meets technical excellence but also contributes to a more sustainable, inclusive energy future.

Recognised with the Influential Women in Energy Award 2025, Netsanet embodies the perfect blend of technical mastery, strategic vision, and unwavering commitment. She continues to inspire the next generation of engineers, proving that innovation, determination, and leadership can transform a nation’s energy landscape and empower communities for decades to come.
