The First Steps of Our Journey
Five Ethiopian women working in the energy sector came together in January 2019 with the goal of changing Ethiopia’s energy sector. They chose to take action by establishing the first association dedicated to strengthening women in the energy sector after seeing huge impact influence that women might have in this sector. In addition to showcasing their shared interests, their partnership cleared the way for more women to be represented and have more impact in energy-related fields.
WHERE WE ARE NOW
In 2024, the Ethiopian Women in Energy Association have grown 451 members. Our membership is diverse and includes professionals from the Ethiopian energy sector, including engineers, financial specialists, lawyers, technicians, entrepreneurs, and many more. All of us are committed to empowering women and encouraging growth in the energy industry.
HOW WE OPERATE
EWiEn is governed by the executive committee, who are elected by the members during the annual general assembly.
The Executive Committee works closely with the staff to implement the decisions of the board and carry out the society’s activities.
