Haimanot Tefera Abebe is a true force in Ethiopia’s energy sector. As Director of the Transmission and Substation Program at Ethiopian Electric Power (EEP), she’s at the forefront of modernising and digitalising the country’s power systems, blending technical brilliance with visionary leadership. With a Bachelor’s in Electrical Engineering from Bahir Dar University and a Project Management Professional (PMP®) certification under her belt, Haimanot has spent over 17 years turning ambitious ideas into tangible results, and doing it with style.
Since joining EEP in 2007, Haimanot has led a series of transformative projects that have reshaped Ethiopia’s electricity landscape. From the Smart Energy Meter Project, rolling out meters at over 170 sites nationwide, to major transmission system rehabilitation and voltage regulation initiatives, her work ensures more reliable and efficient electricity for communities across the country. She has overseen high-profile infrastructure projects, including the construction of the Dessie 230 KV Substation, spearheaded drone-based inspections of transmission lines, and played a key role in implementing SAP S/4 HANA and ISO 9001:2008 standards. Her dedication to operational excellence and innovation has set a new benchmark for leadership in the sector.
